It was hot and dusty
when I rolled into town
I went upstairs to my room above the salloon
and I found my woman
she was in bed with another man.
and I knew that between the three of us
somebody was going have to die…

so I pulled out my gun and I shot ‚em
both of em
and I headed out of town.

Just me and my horse
under the desert sky
that’s when the words came back to me
like my Daddy used to say.

Remember son that
Cowboys die lonesome
Cowboys die alone

Seven nights and seven days later
still hot, still dusty,
no food no water,
just my horse and I
we were on ours own
and I knew that between the two of us.
one of us was going to have to die…

so I pulled out my gun and I shot him
and I ate him
hooves, hide and all
I left him a bare skeleton lyin‘ in the dust
and I headed back out on the trail

my best horse down, my best woman gone
that’s when the words came back to me
like they was on the wind….

Remember son that
Cowboys die lonesome
Cowboys die alone
They die alone

Seven nights and seven days later
still hot, still dusty,
no food no water,
I was on my own….or was I?
I could feel it…
there was eyes on me.
sets of eyes on me.
Indians.
and i knew that between us
some of us–
maybe a whole lot of us–
was going to have to die…

So I pulled out my gun and I just…started shootin.
shit shot sham shot sho sha
uh ah oh ah uhhh.

I lay there
in a pool of blood
I was driftin out..
driftin back in again
and with my dying breath…
the words came back to me
like my daddy used to say

Just remember son that
Cowboys die lonesome
Cowboys die alone
They die alone
